We’ve all been there—scrolling through endless text threads, trying to find that one important message from weeks ago. If you’ve ever felt like your iPhone messages are a bit… chaotic, don’t worry. Here’s a simple guide to keeping them organized so you can always find what you need.

Pin Important Conversations
If you have people you text all the time—like family, your best friend, or your boss—you can “pin” them so they always stay at the top.
- Open the Messages app.
- Find the conversation you want to pin.
- Swipe right on it and tap the pin icon.
Now, no matter how many texts you get, your important chats will be right there waiting for you.
Use Search Like a Pro
Instead of scrolling for hours, use the search bar at the top of the Messages app. You can search for:
- A person’s name
- A keyword from the message
- Even a photo or link they sent you
It’s like having a personal assistant who remembers everything.
Mark Messages as Unread
Sometimes you see a text but can’t reply right away. Instead of forgetting about it, mark it as unread:
- In Messages, swipe right on the conversation.
- Tap the blue unread icon.
This way, you’ll get a visual reminder to reply later.
Filter Your Messages
Did you know your iPhone can separate messages from people you know and unknown senders?
- Go to Settings > Messages.
- Turn on Filter Unknown Senders.
Now your inbox will feel less cluttered—and spam texts will have their own section.
Delete the Clutter
If you have old conversations you don’t need, it’s okay to let them go.
- Swipe left on a chat and tap Delete.
- Or, go to Settings > Messages > Keep Messages and choose 30 days or 1 year so older texts disappear automatically.
Back Up Your Messages
If you want to keep everything safe, turn on iCloud backup:
- Go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Messages.
- Toggle it on.
Now all your texts are stored in iCloud, ready to be restored if you get a new iPhone.
💡 Final Tip: A little maintenance goes a long way. Pin, search, filter, and back up—and you’ll never lose track of a message again.
