This procedure makes use of your iTunes backup file and then we will use this file in a 3rd party compatible software that can extract all its data separately and export them to the extensions we just told above.

How to Take iPhone SMS Backup and Export to Ms Excel, PDF and HTML

Step 1 : First of all, take a backup of your iOS Device using the latest version of iTunes and save it to your PC. To create a backup using iTunes, just connect your iPhone to your PC using the standard data cable and open iTunes. Now you will see that iTunes have successfully detected your iPhone and now it will show you the options over there for backup also.

Step 2 : Once you have taken the backup, you need to locate that backup file on your windows computer or Mac. To find that file easily on your system, I recommend you to follow our path for different operating systems.

  • For Windows XPC:Documents & Settings > [your username] > Application Data > Apple Computer > MobileSync > Backup, assuming that Windows is installed in C: drive.
  • For Windows 7 & 8C:Users > [your username] > AppData > Roaming > Apple Computer > MobileSync > Backup
  • For OS X, the backup file is located at User > Library > Application Support > MobileSync > Backup

Step 3: Oyou reached to that file location, now you will see long encrypted files by Apple and you will need a software/tool/utility/service to decrypt this file. Now we will use a 3rd party service to extract the contents of this file and then we will export it to our desired format.

Step 4 : Just go the iphone-sms.com and from here. Now scroll down to the middle and you will see an upload button over there. Just select your encrypted file and it will do all the work for you. Just follow the on screen instructions and you are good to go.

This web app  will let you export the readable text messages or iPhone SMS as the HTML, PDF or MS Excel format files.
