Jailbreaking your iPhone and installing Cydia on it  is a great thing you should do to your iOS Device. Though Cydia sometimes returns errors, but this doesn’t means that Cydia is buggy. If you have used Evasi0n tool to jailbreak your iDevice then you might be seeing this -

Problem

Wow, you exceeded the number of package names this APT is capable of.

Cydia Error - Exceeded the number of Package

<<Via Jailbreakmodo>>

This is quite a common error nowadays for most users. Let me explain this First to you.  The Founder of Cydia App Store –  Jay Freeman aka Saurik explained how cydia work,

” Cydia “downloads all of the package listings locally, and then APT consolidates them into a single efficient data structure that can be used even on memory-constrained devices to access the massive wad of packages later.”

And unfortunately, Cydia store can only hold a total of 65,535 different packages, out of which near around 40,000 packages are already used up the default repositories like Big Boss, Modmyi etc. and we are left with just 25000 additional packages.

So, that means you have added a lot of other sources also apart from the popular Cydia repo’s list. And this is causing an error to your iPhone when you are trying to install a new cydia tweak from it.

Solution

So, to resolve this issue, you need to limit your Cydia Sources. That means you have to uninstall some of the additional Cydia sources because it might be due to the exceeded number of Cydia packages that it supports.

To remove or uninstall Cydia Sources go to this path

Cydia >> Tap on Manage >>  Tap Sources >> Edit  {and delete the additional sources}

#Tip –  Never delete the two most popular and best sources – Big Boss and Modmyi from your Cydia Store. Else you will miss almost all the best CYDIA Apps and Jailbreak Tweaks.
