Apple Releases iOS 6.1.4 Firmware for iPhone 5
It took a long time what Apple has recently released the iOS 6.1.4 Firmware for iPhone 5 only. After the launch of iOS 6.1.3 which is now supported as a tethered jailbreak by both Redsn0w and Sn0wbreeze, now its time for developers to try their hands on to iOS 6.1.4.
The new iOS 6.1.4 doesn’t brings any new features to your current OS but brings a minor bug fixed for speakerphone audio profile. This update is currently available only for the iPhone 5 owners only and within a day or two, apple will soon release new iOS firmware for all of the iOS Devices. The speakerphone profile has been updated to improve on audio quality and Apple hadn’t mentioned anything else in the changelog.
If you rely on iOS 6.x Jailbreak, then you should stay away from this update because you will loose your jailbreak if you will update your iPhone 5 with it. Till now, the best tool for untethered jailbreaking is evasi0n which currently supports the iOS firmwares 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.1, and iOS 6.1.2 only.
The dedicated and talented team of iOS hackers and developers are waiting for the next big WWDC Event where apple will launch the iOS 7 firmware. No doubt, developers will put their efforts on bigger areas rather than wasting time in these small update that doesn’t brings much to iOS device.
The iOS 6.1.4 software update is available via OTA (over-the-air) and if you don’t care about the iOS jailbreaking, then go ahead and follow this path :-
Go to Settings -> General -> Software Update
Just download and install the small update package and you will be on the iOS 6.1.4 firmware version. Also, you can update your iOS Device using the latest version of iTunes.
